GIPel installation procedure

To begin, you need a server.
If you do not have a web hosting, you can still install GIPel on your own computer, using a local server like WampServer on Windows, or XAMPP on Linux.

#1# Database creation

Creating your database

Using phpMyAdmin, you must create your database manually. Give it the name which suits you and do not forget to select utf8_general_ci from the dropdown « Collation » list.
If your provider requires you the name, make sure your database is in utf8_general_ci collation : for that, you must go to the « Operations » tab of phpMyAdmin.

#2# GIPel pack download and files/folders extraction

Your tree view

Download the latest GIPel pack from this page.
Unzip the package into the root folder of the site on which you will run the application.
Consider for example : localhost/applis/gipel/ or
You will get a similar tree in figure 2.
The GIPel implementation takes place in the « application » folder and draws its resources from the « resource » folder. The « system » folder contains the CodeIgniter framework. Where the « upload » folder, it hosts all the images you will upload to illustrate your recordings.

Before going further, you need to edit configuration files below and change the variables according to your own configuration : base url, language, default settings for connecting to your database.
Some variables must be initialized as shown below so that the installation script can work.

$config['base_url'] = '';
$config['language'] = 'english';

// Session Variables
$config['sess_use_database'] = FALSE; --- ((for installation only))

File ./application/config/database.php

$db['default']['hostname'] = 'localhost';
$db['default']['username'] = 'root';
$db['default']['password'] = '******';
$db['default']['database'] = 'gipel';

File ./application/config/autoload.php

$autoload['libraries'] = array('session'); --- ((for installation only))
